Patterned Imprinted Concrete

Patterned imprinted concrete can be a very innovative skill. You can use colours and patterns on freshly poured concrete to make patios, driveways, or paths. This gives concrete the appearance of natural materials like stone, slate, and timber. This process eliminates the high price of natural products.

Minimal Maintenance

Patterned concrete is a unique product that needs minimal maintenance. It performs far better than alternative products such as block pavers, flagstones, tarmac or flagstones. Many problems can be eliminated by using a dolomite subbase and four inches fibre reinforced concrete. These problems include sinking, pest control and weed growth. With wooden decked patios, block paving is possible. Wood rot and pest management are also issues.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?

Simply put, pattern concrete (also known by stamped concrete) involves pouring concrete over a subbase, then applying a colour followed by a hardener. This is quite different to traditional concreting, where you used blocks to create your finished.

After the concrete has cured, the pattern can be applied. You have a wide range of options, with the most popular being brickwork and textured stone. You can add curb appeal to your home by using patterned concrete, especially for driveway lining.

Good quality print

The quality of printed concrete is the most important aspect to consider. Concrete needs to be laid correctly, which requires extreme care, dedication, patience, and perseverance. The concrete may become incoherent and result in a concrete floor that is not structurally sound.

Most contractors will use 6-8 rigid printing matsa and 1 flexible mat in a single set. The driveway’s narrowest section will require six mats. However, the flexible mats can be used to print and access areas that the rigid mats won’t.

Most printing mats will measure 600 x 600 mm. However, there are many options for matt sizes. You just need to decide how large you want them to be and then search the best prices.

Colour Consistency

You should consider colour consistency when installing imprinted concrete. This will ensure that your flooring has the desired colour. The main components of patterned concrete are colour surface hardener as well as antique release agents.

Poor final appearance can be caused by poor application of colour surface hardener. This is especially evident in commercial jobs larger than retail shop flooring.

Large commercial jobs may require several concrete deliveries. This can result in slight colour variation in each concrete mixture. The purpose of the surface hardener is to match the colours together after they have been applied. This is ideal when larger jobs take longer than a few working days.

Ensuring Long-Term Durability

The sub-stone base material must be combined with the subgrade (the subgrade, which could be soil, stones, etc.) to ensure that concrete floors will not crack.

Additionally, the concrete mix used plays a significant role in ensuring the structural integrity is maintained for years to follow.

This is especially true in high-traffic areas like driveways, multi-storey parking lots, and warehouses where machinery is used daily.

Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking

For driveways made of patterned concrete, you must have at most 300kgs of cement per cubic yard.

In colder climates, you may need more.

To increase the floor’s durability, resistance to weather and wear, you can add an air entertaining agent.

Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results

The overall appearance of patterned concrete can be improved by using a solvent-based acrylic sealing agent (only after it is dry). Water-based acrylics pose a greater problem for patterned concrete so they should be avoided.

The sealant can be used every four-years to preserve the look of your patterned concrete.

While it’s not required, this will help to keep your driveway (or any other place where our patterned concrete has been installed) looking fantastic for many years.
